    SP 14 Questionnaire
    1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I like wool, alpaca, mohair, cashmere, silk.
Acrylics, cotton and weird novelty fibers and I don't get along.

    2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
I have a huge plastic drawer that everything has been tossed into. I could wish for the organization brownies to come and straighten things out for me, but the cats keep brownies away.

    3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I'm self tought and have been knitting for well over 20 years. I'm somewhere between intermediate and advanced.

    4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
    No, I don't. Sorry.

    5. What's your favorite scent? vanilla, lemon.

    6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? Is it sugar? Is it chocolate? Then I'll eat it!
    I adore good chocolate.

    7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I spinn sporadically. I sew, I make wire wrapped jewelry, I cross stitch, I weave, and I scrapbook.

    8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)I can play mp3's, and my musical taste is eclectically odd. Anything from They might be Giants, Big Country, Peter Gabriel to Brubeck, Acapella and show tunes can be found in my cd collection.

    9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand? bright jewel tones, blues, purples. Rich deep colors and corals. I'm not fond of yellows, orange and lime green.

    10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? Married to my wonderful sweetie, 1 darling 3 year old daughter and three cats.

    11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos? yes to all. Don't have a poncho though - not since the 70's - my mom made me an irish knit one out of blue/green varigated yarn

    12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit? afghans, hats, scarves and sweaters.

    13. What are you knitting right now? toddler sweater, hubby sweater and too many ufo's to count!

    15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic? Circular bamboos, Brittany wood straights are my favorites.

    16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? Yes to both. Though my winder is getting rickety.

    17. How old is your oldest UFO? - Um, Do I really have to answer this? Over 15 years old.

    18. What is your favorite holiday? What winter holiday do you observe? Christmas and Channukah both are celebrated in our house. My favorite holiday is Channukah and Christmas because that's when I get to spoil family and friends with gifts.

    19. Is there anything that you collect? I hate too much stuff. yarn, fabric, sewing machines.

    20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? I'm not subscribed to anything. Some of the new indie dyed stuff looks great.

    21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn? not sure, I'm in a knitting rut atm.

    22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? I wish I could knit Socks. I try and then I get frustrated and I don't finish the socks. Maybe it's the 4 dpns falling out and hitting the floor, or the too loose cast on at the top I just can't knit them. *sigh* My feet are 8 and 3/4 inches long and 3 inches wide.

    23. When is your birthday? April 25th

    24. Are you on Ravelry? If so, what's your ID? yes, Aviatrix18

    Mischief - 1993 - 2009
    We miss you stripy cat!

Mischief was down to under 3 lbs, and was failing before our eyes. She couldn't even manage to get up onto the bed with Ernie the last few days.

She's buried next to her sister, Trouble. We've explained to Sarah that Mischief is now becoming a flower like Trouble. Trouble's Lilly began to bud today.

    Free on line game
I belong to Big Fish Games, and I pay them 7.00 a month for the right to down load a game at no additional charge.

I got a card in the mail offering me a free copy of AZADA - a decent game.

I already have it, and my Mom won't play it.

First person to say they want it - gets it. :)

    We had a weekend away
Where we went to PA and visted with Ernie's folks.

Miss S had a BLAST. She simply adores Grandma and Dad-Dad.

Ernie and I had a less fun time. His cold came back with a vengeance and a high temp. He felt so crappy I got to drive part of the way home.

I pushed myself way too hard last Wednesday and paid for it all weekend by being a myoclonic mess all weekend. Tuesday I ended up calling in sick as the full body myoclonus had kicked in along with some really nasty aphasia. I was reduced to one word answers/questions on the phone. Luckily Miss S was at Grandma's up here.

Today I feel fine, and got to deal with the colored paint markers and Miss S.

Thank goodness said markers are washable. The hardwood floor and Miss S. were covered in red, blue and purple. The hardwood floor no longer looks like a crime scene. I scolded Miss S. for coloring on the hardwood floor. She does know better and there was a big pad of newsprint that is hers to color on right next to her.

She also fell off the couch while dancing on it, and had a glorious time in the tub after the body painting experience. I asked her why she colored on herself.

    "Because."

Sounds about right for a 3 year old.

    very tired...
Just one of those go go weekends.

    One of the High Points:

We were given tickets to see a show at North Shore Music Theatre, an Adaptation of Judith Viorst's "Alexander and the Horrible, Very Bad, No Good Day." Sarah was entranced for the entire hour. She sat on Ernie's lap next to her cousins and had a wonderful time.

Lunch after the play was not so good. I called the local Friendly's to say that we were arriving with a party of 10. They said fine, no problem. The restaurant is laid out in an L. The top of the L is a side area that can have tables that can be easily pushed together. We got there and the party of 6 that was in line in front of us got seated in the area and we got told, well you can have two back to back booths. This restaurant has extended booths that can comfortably seat 6. They knew we were coming, because we called. So we were told our options were to take the booths OR wait an hour for the other party to clear away. We have 4 children with us ranging from 5 to 2. They want to sit next to each other. We can't put them in a booth without adults and they will not be able to sit together. My Sister in Law decides she wants to speak to a manager. The manager says, sorry. My sister in law countered with . "I guess you don't want our business." (This was easily a 150.00 tab) Manager, "I do want your business." (and then the manager stands there.)

We left. And went to the 99 around the corner, where I called and got our table for 10 no problem. The meal was - meh -. Somehow the bill was 42.00 a family.

Ernie and I suggested that we go to a nice non chain family restaurant that has really good food, but we got shot down because there was no special kids menu. We had to go somewhere where the kids got a "Special" meal with free dessert. In Ernie's words, "We over paid for a sub par meal so the kids could have a hoodsie cup."

Part of me likes and part of me doesn't like a kids menu. It's only been recently that we've even resorted to a kids meal. Most of the time, we'd order an Entree that we know she would like, and shared with her. At the 99 - there was no option for a vegetable. All four kids had macaroni and cheese, with a drink and a sundae with no sauce. (One cousin doesn't get hot fudge sauce, so none of them did.) And the cost was 5.00 +

The best place for a cheap family dinner, in our area is The Border Cafe. Not bad mexican, with a 2.95 kids meal. Sarah likes it. We get a meal with vegetables, flavor and we're fed for under 30.00.

Or we go to Brothers or the Chinese place - Sarah has her Rice and Tea and we get a better meal.

    fun and games
One of the things I do to keep me amused at work is play online games.

One that I'm currently enjoying is called "Dangerous High School Girls."

It's a "Board game" set in the 20's/30's.

Play it for a hour free - www.bigfishgames.com

    SP 13 package!

    Dear secret pal,
Thank you for the box of winter goodness. You made my day and that of my 2 year old too!

When I opened the box, I saw snowflakes :)

    There were all these packages!

Of course I needed help opening them! Miss S thought that the bubble wrap on the snow man mug was the best thing ever!

She promptly took the sheet of bubble wrap and began popping away!

I then could worship the amazing skein of Malabrigio silk and wool in a scrumptious shade of blue. ( I am drooling!)

The theme was snowmen with a nice embroidered towel, cute snowman stickers for scrapbooking, a mini notepad and pen, a snowman candle that Miss S immediately reached for,by saying "A Snowman! Mommy,I need dat!", the aforementioned mug,and three yummy looking chocolate bars.

SP, I was feeling so blue and housebound today that your box really did arrive at the perfect time! Thank you!

    the book-sentence meme
Grab the book nearest you. Right now. Turn to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post that sentence along with these instructions in your LiveJournal. Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

    um...okay....

    page 56 - fifth sentance.

Add, one at a time, beating well after each

    4 large eggs.

The closest book happens to be "The Wooden Spoon Dessert Book" by Marilyn M.
    Moore.

The recipe quoted is Rum-flavored Spice Cake. I'll post the rest if you are interested.
